One leg...

Today marks 8 months since my little mishap.  Been putting about 60lbs of weight on the break for a month and so far I haven't heard anything snap.  My surgeon told me not to be surprised if a screw breaks (but not to worry about it since they are easy to remove - YIKES!)  I am due for my next appointment next week and hopefully moving forward to the next level of weight bearing.  96,103,74,0,C

You probably could write a book on how to live alone in the desert with one leg. I'm glad to hear you are improving. Let patience have her perfect work . . .

Praying God will continue to bless, keep and heal you. Take extra care as you approach the finish line.

Will they be taking any of the hardware out? And if not, what if a screw DOES decide to "snap?" Hope your checkup is an exceptionally positive one so you can get back to being the alpha male at TFL.

Good going so far.

Are you going to have any type of rehab? I congratulate you on your ability to follow the doctor's orders about no weight bearing and such. Keep up the good work!

Rita B. - I take xrays for a group of orthopedic surgeons. It's fairly common for a screw to break. If it doesn't start making its way to the surface of the skin they are usually left alone. No need to remove it unless it becomes painful.

You might ask why they don't use stronger screws. As bone heals, it thickens and hardens and may shift position slightly. If anything is going to break during this process, you want it to be the screw, not the bone that's trying to heal.

Thanks J. I hate to think how we learned this lesson.

I'm still recovering from surgery on a meniscus tear. it takes so long. I'm glad my wife is game. she makes a great Top Hand. I need to teach her to run the tractor... too hot right now.
