a fistful of dollars...

My 2018 silver eagles arrived today.  Seems "bitcoin" is all the rage, but I prefer tangible assets that I can hold in my hand and are made up of bits of real world fine silver.  48,61,27,0,B

You bet i have the same thoughts. Silver collector when it was around 5.50 an ounce...not near as big as the Hunt brothers yet though.

I bought 110 oz of bars and rounds back in '13 and I am not sure if I have broke even yet. I have more faith in my spam, dry beans and chili powder to get me through hard times though.

Dale: The prepper notion that you should buy silver to get you through an economic collapse is just a silly hoax to get you to buy silver. In a SHTF scenario, there won't be anything to buy no matter what kind of currency you have so your spam, dry beans, and chili powder are a good (although not exactly healthy) idea. I bought a bunch of silver in bars, rounds, and casting grain back in 2015 when it was really low. Since then, I only buy 20 silver eagles each year just to collect. I don't expect the price to skyrocket in my lifetime but I can always melt down my stockpile and cast TFL coins or ingots and make a profit no matter what the price of silver is. I am going to do another offering this year in fine silver. In the past I made coins and ingots out of sterling silver. Unfortunately, if you bought in 2013, you are still in the hole. In the last 20 years, silver artificially peaked at nearly $50 in March 2011 mostly due to a poor economy and a perceived shortage of the raw material that was a huge sales pitch for dealers. Throughout 2013, silver continued a decline from $30 to $20. Silver hit the most recent low of about $14 in December 2015. The price was $17.50 this morning. Here is the price chart I consult from time to time... https://www.bullionvault.com/silver-price-chart.do

Bitcoin got over 19K around Christmas and has dropped to 11K so pretty volatile.
